Byrdcliffe Art Colony
Our Story
In the winter of 1902, construction of the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony began on Mount Guardian just outside the hamlet of Woodstock, NY. Seven farms, 1500 acres in all, were purchased for the enterprise by a wealthy Englishman named Ralph Radcliffe Whitehead. By the time it was completed in 1903, 30 buildings stood, comprising what has been referred to as a “textbook example” of a utopian Arts and Crafts Community.
Woodstock Goat Yoga
Victoria Balentine is our shepherdess and yoga teacher. She herds goats, makes cheese and runs the farmstead. Back in the day she had a yoga studio in manhattan and now she is overjoyed to roll three of her passions: yoga, mindfulness and goats into one fabulous offering… Goat Yoga. Ashokan Rail Trail
The Ashokan Rail Trail is open to the public from sunrise to sunset year-round. The 11.5-mile recreational trail runs along Ashokan Reservoir between West Hurley and Boiceville. The ART trail surface is 12 feet in width and surfaced with highly compacted fine crushed stone. Both the trail and trailhead parking areas (including the portable restrooms) are ADA compliant and accessible for persons with disabilities. The ART is open for non-motorized uses, including hiking, walking dogs on leash, bicycling, running, nature observation, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The ART trailheads are plowed in winter, but the trail itself is not.
